Gentle Spirit Karate classes for Men, Women and Teens

Why do we call it Gentle Spirit Karate? There are many approaches to martial arts training and hundreds of martial arts styles. We call our approach Gentle Spirit because we focus on each student being a peaceful yet strong individual.

The mental and physical self-confidence learned in the SafeSkills® Gentle Spirit Karate classes will carry over into many other areas of your life. There are many health benefits such as improved flexibility, muscle toning, weight control, and cardiovascular conditioning. A consistent, active exercise program is a key to good health. Our classes provide this in a fun, yet challenging way.

We combine excellence in personalized teaching with an creative and practical curriculum, all in an atmosphere conducive to your learning and personal growth.

SafeSkills® is a non-contract school. Dues are paid on a monthly basis. Unlike many other martial arts facilities in the Triangle, you do not have to sign a contract that commits you to paying for 6 months to a year at a time. We believe that the quality of the experience you will have at SafeSkills® will keep you returning to class each week!

Beginner's class
The beginner's class is designed for people just starting karate. The learning pace is relaxed and slow so that you can develop a solid foundation of the traditional basic karate skills. Once you have gained these skills, you are ready to progress to the intermediate classes. New students attend twice a week to get the most benefit from training. Visit our Getting Started For Beginners page to see how easy it is to start karate training at SafeSkills®.

The karate skills you will learn will most likely be new to you. One concept I believe is you will not be making mistakes as you learn these new skills, but you may experience "learning points". Be patient with yourself, this precious patience is the key to your success!

Beginners karate classes are held on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 6:30 to 7:30. Twice a week is ideal for beginners.

FREE CLASS! You are welcome to try one free class to experience what SafeSkills® is all about. Please call the SafeSkills office at 644-1335 to schedule your free class.

What is Karate?
Karate is a combination of stances, punches, kicks, and blocks that make up a very efficient and beautiful way of moving. Karate teaches the mind, body, and spirit to function in unison. Sensitive and spirited practice of hard and soft styles of karate provides an opportunity to develop strength, grace, flexibility and endurance. It is an on-going process of both physical and mental discipline. We strive to emphasize a noncompetitive and supportive learning environment.

There is a difference between karate and self-defense training. Karate is the study of an art form. Similar to dance or gymnastics training, you strive for perfection. Self-defense training is the reality of that art form, you strive to prevent or escape an attack by doing whatever it may take. Both types of programs offer many long range benefits.

Welcome to SafeSkills® Gentle Spirit Karate. We are happy to have you join us as we all walk along the martial arts path.
